What a mapping exception is trying to tell you

Adapters that map fields between applications leave a trail when something does not fit: truncated SKUs, site codes that no longer exist, dates in the wrong century. Teams sometimes filter these exceptions into a folder nobody opens.

In a message failure review we treat that folder as primary evidence. Count the exception types across the failure window. The loudest type is often a single field — not “the integration.” Fixing truncation on a stock code has cleared more overnight disputes for our clients than rewriting an entire connector.

Ask who owns the mapping table. If the answer is “whoever touched it last,” put that in the brief. Adapter work fails socially as often as it fails technically.
